| Photographs Soon | Margaret Pedreny Margaret was born in Michigan, and has always been interested in art. Her family expressed themselves through art. Pencil renderings, pastels and oil painting were early endeavors. During extensive travel in Latin America and Caribbean Islands she took up painting in acrylics and has displayed her works in the Bahamas and Mexico. While in Mexico, she spent a great deal of time touring the Mayan ruins in Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Chiapas, researching and studying the ancient Mayan art forms. The Mayan Pantheon and how they had been expressed in murals, bas relief's and sculptures has been of particular interest to her and her expression of art. She continues to explore ways to express these themes in her paintings. After relocating to the American Southwest 27 years ago, she has studied painting techniques under known artists, such as: Sally Quillin, Bill Bissell, Ken Hosmer, Sara Chambers, Bob Rohm, Joyce Macrorie, Leni Baxter, Sam Peters and others. She has been accepted in many juried shows, in New Mexico and Texas and has received an Honorable Mention award at the 8th Regional Show in Las Cruces. She also exhibits regularly at local venues and has exhibited her work at the Racine Art Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. She is a founding member of the Southern Chapter of the New Mexico Watercolor Society and has been actively on the board of the Las Cruces Arts and Crafts Association. She also is a member of the Pastel Society of El Paso and Friday Painters. She espouses the use of strong color and expresses this in some of her paintings of exotic animals, and on the other hand capturing the beauty of the Southwest Landscape. She works in a variety of mediums and is always experimenting with new techniques.
