Alice Dressler

Alice Dressler was born in Lithuania. After high school she entered the local Fine Arts Academy to become an artist, but World War II disrupted Alice's life. She had to leave Lithuania to escape the Soviets.

After many journeys during and after the war, the safe thing to do was to go to the United States. In 1956, she arrived in New York City with her husband and three children. However, she was still unable to pursue her life's dream to be an artist because a new life had to be built for her family and that meant work for pay.

Only many years later, Alice was able to start painting. During a vacation with a friend in New Mexico she saw the magnificent mountains and the awesome sunsets. She moved to Las Cruces 13 years ago and started painting the wonderful views.

Alice has been a member of the Las Cruces Art Association for several years and was the treasurer of this group for three years. She is also a portraitist and has organized a portrait painting group with live models in the Museum of Fine Arts on Water Street.

Bright colors are New Mexico colors.
What would the world be without color?
Color is art and art is color.
